This week, all around the world, we celebrate mothers.
After living in rural Guatemalan community for over a year, I have been continually reminded of the strength, selflessness and ingenuity of women. Each and every woman participating in our training program is a mother. For some, bringing their little ones to class is the only option, others have family members (a few husbands even) who are taking care of their children so that they can come to class. It has been so amazing to see these women light up when given the opportunity to learn new skills, be creative and share their joys and struggles.
Many women in this community serve as the backbone to the family, stepping in as both parents when in many cases the fathers work in other towns due to lack of work. From washing clothes for hours in the river to attending school activities to waking up at 3am to sell tortillas, these mommas are ROCKSTARS!!
Our training program along with all of our artisan partners provide these women opportunities to invest in themselves and we know that when women make an income they invest 90% back to their families, in turn investing in their families too.
This Mother’s Day, join us as we celebrate all our amazing partners and artisans (many who are mothers) who selflessly provide the strength to help their families thrive!
Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.
