Elolo | South Africa

THE STORY:

Elolo was founded in 2002 by Laurie Broomberg who, after having traveled to China and had a first hand picture of the shocking labor conditions, decided to change career paths and support local women in Cape Town, South Africa in any way she could.

Elolo was developed to empower and support women in the community living with HIV/AIDS. By working with Elolo to craft and sell handicrafts, these women are now able to support themselves and their families.

YOUR PURCHASE SUPPORTS:

For every $10 you spend on Elolo's products, $7 supports their programming for training women with HIV/AIDS in South Africa.

Elolo directly employs women in the Cape Town community to craft their sparkly products. These women receive direct training in English literacy and skills courses to be successful providers and entrepreneurs.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR WOMEN:

The women of Elolo have acquired skills in making handicrafts and can now earn incomes on their own. This take-home-pay has allowed them to build homes, send their children to school, and move beyond being defined by their illness.
