Who We Are

We are a lean, largely volunteer-led social enterprise. Doing so allows us to reinvest a sizable amount (70%!) back into our partners. Meet our main people:

Rachel Hartgen, Co-Founder and Managing Director

Rachel grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho where the cows and potatoes far outnumber people. Upon finishing her undergraduate degree at Baylor University, she was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in Central America where she worked on several community development projects. She came back to the United States to earn a M.A. in Economics and a M.A. in International Development from the University of Denver. Rachel started her career in small internationally-focused non-profits in the Denver Metro Area. She then moved to Washington, DC where she worked in program management and business development of large donor-funded international development projects. She has worked extensively on issues surrounding inclusive finance and microenterprise development, working in South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia to design, launch, and evaluate products and services for poor and vulnerable groups.

Rachel returned to Denver in 2013 to focus on her passion of working with grassroots organizations serving women and girls, leading local nonprofit organizations in doing so. With Dana, she co-launched Women's Partnership Market based on their shared development experiences and belief that more should be done to build the capacity of existing women's groups.

In addition to WPMarket, she now serves as the Director of Economic and Institutional Development for Louis Berger, working primarily on the DFID-funded Access to Finance for the Poor Program in Nepal. In her free time, she enjoys time with her husband and two dogs, getting outside and traveling.

Andra Breazeale, Co-Owner and Associate Director

Andra grew up in a small town in East Texas. After finishing up her studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce, Andra moved to Denver to work at Regis University in the Office of Student Activities. During her time at Regis, Andra had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua with El Porvenir, a Denver based non-profit focused on clean water. She then traveled to the Dominican Republic with Denver Community Church where she met a young girl, about 10 years old, that continues to serve as her inspiration for her commitment to empowering young girls and women in the developing world. These experiences led Andra to make a career change to the international non-profit field. Most recently, Andra served as the Manager of External Relations & Operations at AfricAid, a Denver-based non-profit supporting girls' education in Tanzania.

Currently, Andra and her husband Garrett are living and working in Guatemala at a rural clinic & community center sponsored by the University of Colorado's Global Health Department.

Kandace McVickar, Creative Director

Kandace is a bonafide design nerd from the Chicagoland suburbs. It all started out with a love of fabric that lead her to study fashion at the Illinois Institute of Art. Kandace comes to WPMarket after working as a Home Decor Product Designer and Digital Creative Editor for an Indie-Magazine wanting to use her development knowledge and editorial skills to help empower women all around the world!
In her free time she enjoys exploring local coffee shops while designing digital textile designs for her  #365piecesofKandy Project.

Alex Boehler, Outreach Associate

Growing up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alex spent her summers on one of the state's 10,000 lakes (actually 11,842, but who's counting?) which sparked her deep appreciation for the natural world. This appreciation, combined with a passion for skiing and wonder of the mountains, led Alex to the University of Colorado Boulder to earn bachelor's degrees in Geography and English. Upon graduating, Alex worked as a Community Development Coordinator with Growing Gardens, a non-profit focused on cultivating community through sustainable urban farming education. Alex comes to WPMarket after a year of travel in South America, Europe, and the western United States. During part of this time, she worked with an international development non-profit in Peru focused on the empowerment of women and girls through education and financial independence. Alex is excited to continue supporting women and girls as a part of the WPMarket team!
